Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

You may benefit from a speech-language evaluation if your child:

  • Is not talking as much as other children their age

  • Is difficult for others to understand

  • Has trouble following directions

  • Uses fewer words or sentences than expected

  • Has difficulty interacting or communicating with others

  • Seems frustrated when trying to communicate

Early support can make a meaningful difference. If you have concerns, an evaluation can help determine whether therapy is recommended.

What ages do you work with?

We specialize in working with young children ages 2–5 during the critical early years of speech and language development.

What happens during an evaluation?

Evaluations are play-based and designed to be comfortable and engaging for your child. The evaluation may include:

  • Parent interview and developmental history

  • Play-based observation

  • Standardized and informal assessments

  • Discussion of your child’s strengths and needs

  • Recommendations and next steps

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns.

What does a typical therapy session look like?

Therapy sessions are individualized and play-based, using toys, books, and activities that match your child’s interests. Sessions focus on building communication skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

We prioritize connection, engagement, and meaningful communication.

How often will my child need therapy?

Frequency depends on your child’s individual needs and evaluation results. Many children attend therapy once or twice per week, but recommendations are personalized for each child.

Do parents attend therapy sessions?

Parent involvement is encouraged and valued; however, parents are not required to attend every session. Some children are more engaged and independent when working one-on-one with the therapist, and in certain cases, a parent’s presence can be distracting.

We will determine together what setting best supports your child’s progress. Whether parents are present in the therapy room or not, we provide ongoing guidance, education, and practical strategies so you can confidently support your child’s communication development at home and help skills carry over into daily routines and environments.

What is a neuroaffirming approach?

A neuroaffirming approach respects and supports each child’s unique way of communicating and interacting with the world. Therapy focuses on building skills while honoring your child’s strengths, individuality, and autonomy.
